Now, you might be wondering what this blog is about, much like myself. So, let me explain.
CBRZY
My name is Chris and I go by CBRZY [see-bree-zee] the Digital Capitán, a pseudonym if you will, not that it is really doing its job now seeing as I told you my name, but it is what it is.
Basically the Digital Capitán part came from my short stint as a sole app developer where I created an app to help fight crime in the country I grew up in, South Africa. Yeah there is lots of crime there and making a change in this world is something I always wanted to do. Digital Capitán is still alive and well, just very slow with developing new apps.
The CBRZY part is what I created as a sort of brand name for my photography, I didn’t want to just have my name as my brand and social handle, even though it makes a lot of sense as a photographer. CBRZY was built up from my full name, and kind of squeezed together to be easily pronounced. Unfortunately, this brand name slash handle is more cumbersome to spell and explain than it is simple, but it has been a few years, and I am way too invested in the domain name to turn back now.
Why you are here
You might be here reading this blog because you and I share a common interest in photography or art, and that my rambles about my voyage through this universe one piece of art a time can at least bring you some form of enjoyment. Be that in the form of an image that you like, a video that inspires you if you are lucky, or a joke that you laugh at if I’m lucky.
We will just have to wait, roll the dice, and see what happens. At this moment in time it is anyone’s guess what is going to happen.
You might just be here because you are a family member or a friend wanting to say they supported this endeavour by reading my very first blog post, alas upon opening this post they saw there were too many words for them to really be interested in it.
I am hoping for the former, as that would mean that the main reason for writing this blog is getting a reader or two.
Photography
Unfortunately, I don’t have a magical or aw inspiring story for how my photography journey started. I assume if you are here reading this you most likely have heard some of these stories, like photography bringing people back from addiction or suicidal thoughts, etc.
No, my photography really only started a few years ago when I wanted to take better photos of food, for a food blog my partner and I was running together, reviewing restaurants and writing about it with some really delicious looking photos to boot. The food blog is a story for another time.
I got a good special on a Canon 700D (Rebel T5i, I think), a few lenses, and an absolutely garbage camera bag, and I have to say, that camera took some amazing photos, and really did show it was worth every penny.
As you probably would know, buying a DSLR isn’t just pointing, shooting, and having amazing photos. Oh no siree, it came with a tonne of crap photos, from being out of focused to being over and underexposed all in a single photo. Basically it came with a lot of learning that needed to be done, and I actually loved that part, as I am always up for learning something new.
Social Media
Fast forward a few years, and like many other amateur photographers, or even professionals for that matter, I am part of the camp that… I don’t want to say hate, but is not in-love with the current social media platforms and playing to the algorithm.
All I want is to be able to take photos, share them with like-minded people, hear what they have to say, learn from amazing photographers, all without having to like, share and retweet just to get a bit of exposure.
I know, I know, I know. That is the current state of the game, and sure it does help open the world to everyone, me included here, I just easily get exhausted posting a story every 24 hours just because that is how you get exposure.
Why I am here
Based on the previous chapters you might already have guessed it. I am here to slow down, post some photos I hope you like, get some thoughts off my mind, and hopefully connect with some people about all of it.
I thought to myself, that to really make this work, I cannot just stalk other people’s posts and only post a photo once and a while, but I really have to jump in and go for it.
All I do know is that I enjoy this. I have only written this one post, and getting to put the words on a screen is very calming to be honest.
Onward through the fog
So from this post onwards, I will be sharing my journey as an amateur photographer, be that with photos I take, or how I take them, or to how I edit them even, I am not quite sure just yet.
Acknowledgement of inspiration
There are too many people, photographers and YouTube channels to list that provides me with inspiration for keeping up with photography, but I do want to have a special mention for
, and her YouTube video, which pushed me in this direction, and getting the words out of my head and onto the screen.
